Sveta Petka

On March 12 and 13 at the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg, a Clergy Confession and Meeting of this Deanery were held.

On Friday morning, at the St. Sava Church in North Port, a Presanctified Liturgy was served. The Liturgy was served by Fr. Dragan Zaric of Charlotte, Fr. Ljubisa Brnjos of Orlando and Fr. Dragan Zaric of North Port. After the Liturgy, we visited the newly-built church and noticed the defects made by the builders. We hope that these defects will be fixed as soon as possible, so the church can serve its purpose. After the Liturgy our brotherhood gatherings were continued with Fr. Dragan and Popadija Izvorinka, who were blessed with their first-born son Gavrilo, ten days ago.

That same evening, we got together at the St. Sava Church in St. Petersburg. Bishop Mitrophan and the other priests, board presidents and Sunday School teachers from the Deanery were there.

At the meeting we mostly talked about better organization and a better relationship between our churches and parishes within the Deanery. We especially pointed out the issue of making schedules of the special events like celebrations of Patron Saints or Festivals. As we know, the Consecration of the St. Basil of Ostrog Church in Greensboro, NC is going to take place on May 29-30. We announced that our St. Petka Church will also start construction, so we hope that we are going to bless the foundations before the end of the year. We scheduled the dates of our Festival and main celebration of our Church Slava. This year, the St. Petka celebration is going to be on Sunday, October 24th. The Festival is going to be during the first weekend in November (5th-7th).

Also, the other parishes announced their important dates, so we can attend each others' celebrations more. We agreed to open the website of the Deanery with a calendar, where we can post all the information from all around the Deanery. We also agreed that these kinds of meetings should be held at least a couple of times a year, if we want to have a better relationship between the parishes. On Saturday, March 13, the Holy Liturgy was held with the Clergy Confession taking place before. The Liturgy was served by His Grace Bishop Mitrophan, who was helped by six priests: Fr. Miloje Raicevic, Fr. Jovan Todorovic, Fr. Stefan Zaremba, Fr. Svetozar Veselinovic, Fr. Rodney Torbic, who was the Confessor, and Fr. Ljubisa Brnjos. On the Liturgy, the ipodeacon, Bosko Stojanovic, was ordained into the rank of a deacon. Deacon Bosko was ordained the next day into priesthood and announced the priest of the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After the Holy Liturgy and lunch, which was prepared by the Serbian Sisters Club of St. Pete, an educational meeting was held with the Bishop. All Church-school congregations brought their Sunday school reports, as well as the reports about adult lessons. In the end, we were thankful to the Lord for this meeting and scheduled the next one in Miami.
